Chapter 224 –February 2017 Meeting Notes and Ride Report – 02/18/2017

The February meeting took place at Southbay Motorsports. The following items were discussed with the members and guests present. This was the first chapter meeting of 2017, as the weather has been less than cooperative with 224 so far this year. This month there was no chapter ride due to the rainy weather.

The charter documents were read aloud to the group, no questions or concerns were voiced. Ride waivers were collected by Roger, and will be provided to National in accordance with the document submittal calendar. The 2017 SW StarBQ will be held in Camp Verde, AZ May 19-20, registration is open, and several members have already signed up to attend. Camp Verde is located well north of Phoenix, so the temperatures should be more moderate than the 100’s plus we experienced last April! Roger shared information on other StarBQ’s that have been scheduled, including the NW in August in Boise, ID; NE in June in Gettysburg, PA; SE in August in Hendron, SC. Roger solicited ride ideas for 2017, the following were noted as possible destinations: Solvang (0vernight); Vista Antique Steam Engine Museum; Palm Springs; Borrego; a Coastal ride; Motorcycle museum in San Diego; quarterly BBQ’s at Mike Mancini’s residence.

The chapter welcomed new members Adam and Mary McElroy to the group. They attended this months meeting with their 2 sons. Mary happens to be the destination coordinator for the antique car club they belong to, so she may have a number of great new ride destination suggestions for the Chapter. Roger asked in anyone is interested in the chapter tee shirts, if so, contact him directly.

The December meeting was the Christmas pot luck hosted by Dave and Debra. Good food, good people, and good fun was shared by all present.

Remember to take a look at your STAR membership cards, and send in your renewals if they are due. If you’ve recently renewed, send John an email with the new expiration date and let me know that you’re good for 2017 or in to 2018.

Chapter 224 –November 2016 Meeting Notes and Ride Report – 11/19/16

The November meeting took place at Southbay Motorsports.  The following items were discussed with the members and guests present.  Nominations for Chapter Officers for 2017 were closed at the November meeting.  Roger and David have agreed to continue as the President and Vice President.  As we head into 2017, Roger will have discussions with Ted of SBMS for increasing membership in the chapter.  John N. will review the spreadsheet provided earlier this year from Star and reach out to the owners listed to discuss potential membership.  The Wreaths Across America Wreath Laying Ceremony will take place on December 16th, the schedule and activities are summarized below.

Chapter 224 –September 2016 Meeting Notes and Ride Report – 9/17/16

The September meeting took place at Carl’s Jr. in Alpine.  The chapter participated in the days events with the Patriot Guard Riders.  These events included attendance at the Alpine Community center to honor current and past military, law enforcement, and fire fighting personnel.  We had to leave Alpine by about 9:45 so that we could ride as a group to Motoworld of El Cajon to present the colors at the Wall of Remembrance that was set up in the parking lot.  The PGR riders ride side by side, so this was something new for most 224 members.  The Wall of Remembrance display, along with a few vendors and other displays was well attended by the public.  The highlight was the impossibly small diameter ‘cage of death’.  One or more riders would enter this circular cage and ride sideways (bodies and bikes parallel to the ground!) at speeds that made you dizzy.

Chapter 224 –October 2016 Meeting Notes and Ride Report – 10/15/16

The October meeting took place at Southbay Motorsports. Roger indicated that there has been no communications from Star for some time, and contacted Steve from Chapter 123 to make sure nothing has been missed. Other items of discussion included the opening of nominations for the 2017 Chapter Officers. Nominations will close at the November meeting. The Long Beach Bike Show takes place November 19th this year, currently no organized chapter ride to the event is planned. We were joined by Roger’s neighbors Jeff and Athena this month.
